Six Steps To Bridge The Communication Gap Among Multigenerational Workers

It’s a scene you might have witnessed in your own office: An industry veteran is working alongside an energetic millennial, and their rapport may be lacking. Both workers are unwilling to change or compromise, and communication seems to be at a low point. This is a prime example of a communication gap among multiple generations.

As baby boomers and older Generation Xers head toward retirement, the workplace is becoming younger. According to Pew Research Center, it's estimated that 10,000 baby boomers in the U.S. will reach retirement age every day until nearly 2030. By 2025, experts say the workforce will be comprised of 75% millennials. For the foreseeable future, I believe current generations must learn to better communicate with one another.
