SkillPath Releases Workplace and Sexual Harassment Training

In 2018, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission received a $16 million budget increase to focus on sexual harassment claims. Preliminary data from the agency indicated a 13.5 percent increase in sexual harassment charges from 2017 to 2018 and a $10 million increase in settlements recovered for victims.

As reports of workplace and sexual harassment increase, as well as EEOC enforcement, a fundamental cultural and societal shift must occur to bring awareness to harassment and its prevention.

SkillPath, a leading professional learning and development provider, has produced a new training program to help companies identify and address harassment. The program, Preventing Sexual and Workplace Harassment: Working Together to Create a Harassment-free Culture, enables employees and managers to detect warning signs, recognize inappropriate behaviors and respond to complaints.

“The EEOC’s report serves as a reminder that harassment complaints and enforcement are the current reality for all employers,” said Cam Bishop, President and CEO of SkillPath. “Even diligent employers must be cautious, have a strategy for handling accusations, and establish a harassment training and prevention plan.”

SkillPath’s Preventing Sexual and Workplace Harassment program features two hours of training and meets tougher state-mandated anti-harassment training requirements in New York and California. In addition, companies can incorporate their internal policies and procedures into the training. Train-the-trainer/facilitator guides and licensing agreements are also available.

The training entails:
• The laws that define harassment and what it looks like in the workplace
• How to identify the dynamics of a hostile work environment
• How to prevent bullying, gender bias and sexual orientation discrimination, as well as other forms of workplace harassment
• How to respond to and report harassment
• How to create a harassment-free culture

“Prevention training is a vital step in creating a harassment-free workplace,” Bishop said. “Employees at all levels must play their part in understanding what harassment is and how to respond to it.”
